The first day of our travels turned out to be a very long one. Up until about five minutes before we departed, I was under the impression we were leaving from Indianapolis, our current location. It wasn’t until I arrived at the skateboard shop to meet my traveling companion that it was brought to my attention we were to leave from Chicago’s O’Hare. My friend laughed as he told me the news, but it made no difference to me, I was just anxious to be on our way. After slithering down the icy roads through the oncoming snow storm in a huge, red, diesel; bed filled with 5- fifty gallon drums soon to be frozen over… We finally arrived in Chicago. We met up with some friends to eat before our departure. My skin felt tight and frozen after stepping out of the beast onto the snow-covered streets of Chi-town. The clothes I packed were definitely not suitable for these conditions. The restaurant was an amazing hole-in-the-wall which made me want to stop eating meat more than ever (so many veggie options). Wearing only a fleece for extra protection, I struggled down the streets back to the rig, bound for Chicago’s O’Hare airport. We arrived at 12 o’clock… about 7 hours before our flight. The journey had officially begun.
